Guildford Spectrum is owned by Guildford Borough Council and managed in partnership by Freedom Leisure. The complex was opened on 23 February 1993 by the then Mayor of Guildford Cllr. Anthony Page. The complex took two years to build at a cost of £28 million.

The complex is situated on the outskirts of the historical market town of Guildford in an area known as Stoke Park. The 26 acre site was chosen because of its proximity to the town and it is also within easy reach of the main A3 trunk road that links London with the South coast at Portsmouth.

It was the first of its kind in the UK and still today it is unrivalled in the facilities it houses all under one roof. Guildford Spectrum prides itself in providing first class facilities for the residents of Guildford as their local leisure centre, to the 1000’s of day visitors as a regional tourist attraction with a catchment of 1½ hours drive time and also the attendees and spectators to the numerous sporting and non-sporting events that take place each year.

The complex is also home to the Guildford Flames Ice Hockey team that are based from Spectrum who compete in the English Premier Ice Hockey League and regularly during the season play to crowds of over 2000 against teams from as far afield as Sheffield, Manchester and more locally from Basingstoke and Bracknell.

Freedom Leisure

Established in April 2002 as a not for profit leisure trust Freedom Leisure ran four centres on behalf of Wealden District Council. Since then the company has enjoyed considerable growth and now manages 35 leisure sites for a number of partners as well as owning 3 fitness clubs.

As a not for profit trust we have no share holders to pay and surplus income is reinvested directly into the centre to provide an improved leisure service for the communities in which we operate. We work together with our key partners including local authorities, Primary Care Trusts, schools, colleges, charities and other public, private and not-for-profit organisations.

Our board of trustees is independent and voluntary. They are highly experienced with skills drawn from both the public and private sector. We are not owned by anybody, such as employees, shareholders, or private sector organisations.

We are committed to developing locally empowered and locally accountable partnerships. Our objective is to make a positive impact and contribute to local services and facilities.

We are all dedicated to working with our partners to deliver first class services and facilities and to encourage everyone to enjoy and participate regularly in a healthy and active lifestyle and have some fun doing it.
