What we specialise in:

Osteopathy

Osteopaths are highly trained Allied Health Professionals who are well known for their expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of the entire musculoskeletal system and its relationship with other systems in the body.

Your osteopath will take the time to understand your individual history, circumstances, and unique physiology and provide a package of care tailored to your needs. This can include manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises, screening, and general health advice.

We also work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as consultants, GPs, and other Allied Health Professionals.

Sports Massage

This session aims to work on specific muscle groups or body areas to improve fascia, muscle, ligaments and joint flexibility.

Regular sports massage can prevent common injuries associated with physical activities but also enhance recovery and performance.

Sports massage also positively impacts mental and emotional health, reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

Sports Rehabilitation, including Pre and Postoperative Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is the core of treatment at Encourage Movement. Most importantly, we empower you to understand the problem and cause of your injuries. Once the problem and cause are identified, we fix them using your body's movement. Most movement-related symptoms have a biomechanical cause, not a biochemical one. Medications can help relieve symptoms for a while, but only a personal movement prescription will fix the problem.

Sports Rehabilitation

  • Shoulder & elbow pain
  • Knee & Ankle Injuries
  • Neck & Back Pain
  • Hip Pain
  • Ligament Injuries
  • Muscular and neural pain

Scar Tissue Management

Scar tissue creates permanent mechanical irritation by forcing tissue to rub against each other. The innervation around the scar tissue can be affected, which may produce localised and generalised spasms. This further can cause discomfort, super-sensitivity or even pain in the tissue.

Scar tissue also causes stiffness and a decrease in elasticity. It becomes thick, less playable, and more prone to tear.

Treating scar tissue is essential in recovering from injuries and/or post-operative procedures.

We will treat the affected area using several techniques, including Myofascial techniques, IASTM, and Graston. We will also educate you on how to self-manage your scar tissue.

Women’s Health:

Mummy MOT

The Mummy MOT is a comprehensive post-natal examination of women following both vaginal and C-section delivery. The assessment aims to identify how your body is recovering from pregnancy and giving birth.

Your osteopath, a certified Mummy MOT practitioner, will ask you specific questions and then look at your posture, movement, strength, abdominal muscles, pelvic stability and breathing.

As part of the assessment, and if you consent to it, the pelvic floor muscle can also be assessed internally. This assessment aims to determine if you can contract and relax the pelvic floor efficiently, see how the area heals, and recheck the muscle tone. We can further progress with treatment and rehabilitation to prevent any issues from developing in the future.

Depending on your goals, your Mummy MOT Osteopath will prescribe exercises and treatment to help your recovery and return to exercise/ sport.

Post-natal Osteopath

Encourage Movement offers post-natal assessment and treatment from six weeks following both vaginal and C-section delivery. The assessment aims to identify how your body is recovering from pregnancy and giving birth.

At the appointment, your posture, pelvic floor, and stomach muscles are assessed. Depending on your goals, the osteopath leading your appointment will provide a personal treatment plan and prescribe exercises to aid your recovery and assist you in returning to your daily activities and sports.

Pregnancy Osteopathy

Encourage Movement offers highly specialised assessment and treatment for various conditions to help you through your pregnancy and prepare you for your delivery.

Every woman experiences pregnancy differently. Therefore, we recommend an osteopathy assessment to ensure you get the correct advice and treatment with exercises tailored specifically for you.
