Guildford Spectrum Exercise Referral and Weight Management Scheme

What is Exercise Referral?

Being physically active is important for everyone and the good news is, it’s never too late to begin!

Here at Guildford Spectrum Exercise Referral & Weight Management Scheme we recognise that returning to exercise can require a higher level of practical and emotional support if you have been inactive or have a long-term health condition. Whatever your personal situation, we are here to guide, motivate, and support you to prevent, improve, and manage your health condition.

Exercise Referral is all about improving your wellbeing through exercise. We will guide you through our 12-week scheme with a bespoke programme of supervised activity tailored to your individual goals and health needs.

Working in partnership with Surrey County Council, Active Surrey and the NHS, our subsidised, supportive scheme offers you:

  • Unlimited access to our safe, supervised gym
  • One-to-one contact with an Exercise Referral specialist instructor
  • A personalised exercise programme designed to help you make long-lasting lifestyle changes
  • Regular programme reviews to ensure you are progressing and to make any changes needed
  • Check-ins with your personal coach to keep you motivated and on the right track
  • Access to our follow-on, subsidised Live Well membership

Our Exercise Referral and Weight Management Scheme costs £75 for 12 weeks. Please note that this cost is payable by the client - the scheme is not funded by the NHS.

The Exercise Referral Process

Read more on steps 1-4

Step 1: Talk to your GP or Health care professional

They will assess your suitability for our scheme and get your consent to make the referral. Once we receive your referral form, we’ll call you to make an appointment for you to meet with one of our team.

Step 2: Come and meet us

After our initial contact we’ll meet in person. This is an opportunity for you to have a look around our facilities and tell us what you want to achieve. We’ll talk through your health needs; any potential barriers you can see and together we’ll agree how we will work collaboratively to help you achieve your health and wellbeing goals.

Step 3: Let’s go

We want you to feel comfortable using our gym so your personal instructor will take you through your exercise programme on your first session. To ensure you keep progressing, we will review your progress at least every four weeks – and we’ll be in touch in between to keep you on track and answer any questions you may have.

Step 4: Making long-lasting change

Once you’ve started to feel the benefits of regular physical activity we will help you find other opportunities to sustain the changes you have made. As an Exercise Referral client you will be eligible to move on to our subsidised, Live Well membership and continue to enjoy the benefits of unlimited gym access and specialist instructor support.
